Project

Facilitate a partnership between YouTube and The White House, in which citizens themselves–not just the press–can submit questions directly to President Obama alongside the State of the Union address.

RESULTS

Created an innovative experience that harnessed Google and YouTube tools, enabling citizens to directly engage with President Obama, and fostering participatory democracy during the early days of social media.

Your Interview With the President

Using our hub or banner ads, citizens submitted questions to President Obama–access typically only afforded to the press. The White House reviewed the submissions, and selected several for President Obama to answer during a live broadcast aired just before the State of the Union address.

Google Hangout With the President

After the State of the Union address, Obama sat down for a live Google Hangout hosted on our hub. Visitors to YouTube that day saw a temporary YouTube logo I designed for the event (aka a “Yoodle”), which took them directly to the Hangout.

I also made got to make the “Yoodle” for this national event. This is the YouTube version of the Google Doodle, in which their main logo gets swapped during a significant event. Clicking on the logo would take you to our hub.

Citizens could also submit questions to President Obama directly from our unique banner ads.
